It was a dark and stormy night when we decided to visit El Rio which had been recommended by our friends Todd & Susan Folk.

It was a good half hour drive from our home in Sandy Springs to Cumming. We decided to go in spite of the weather since we had not added a Mexican restaurant to our WEB site for a while.

We found the margaritas above average, though they could not make frozen ones that night. Salsa was kept in large pitchers on each table with little chance of running out. Chips were the normal chips, nothing special. The Guacamole was too smooth for our liking, we like chunks, but the flavor was good. The food was good and the plate that I had, priced at $6.95 had three items. I took one of the items, a Chile Relleno, home to have for dinner the next night. What we did not realize when we arrived at about 7:15 pm on Sunday was that they are only open until 8:00 pm on Sunday.

If we are in the area we probably would revisit this restaurant. However for a half hour drive the opposite way we could be at Sol y Luna ( formerly Ricardo's) our favorite restaurant.

A slightly different version of the El Azteca chain. The food selections are a bit different that the location in Sandy Springs. The frozen margaritas are really frozen and I would not order them again. If you really want the good Guacamole with chunks in it you need to order the "Mexican" Guacamole or you just get the paste variety.

It wasn’t bad – I had a Texas on the rocks because the waitress said it was better than frozen and it was OK.  The guacamole and cheese dip were average, but not exceptional.  I also had a beef taco salad that was actually pretty good.  The prices were about normal.
